How to use:

Country Commercial Guides

 "Presents a comprehensive look at countries' commercial environments, using economic, political and market analysis." Prepared annually by the U.S. embassies and other government agencies.

How to use:
  Must register in order to use.

Archived reports (1996 - 2001)
  Select year then the geographic location, then country to be studied. Do not need not register in order to use.

The Country Profiles topic area is an important source of comprehensive country profiles from the CIA World Factbook and Walden Reports.

How to use:
  Enter the country name in the search box, then select either CIA Factbook or Walden Reports. Use this resource to find archived versions of the CIA World Factbook. Walden Reports last updated in 2002. Online help is available.

Library of Congress Country Studies

[Full text: irregular updates]

The Country Studies are prepared by the Library of Congress and sponsored by the Department of the Army. They are available for most major countries of the world and provide a comprehensive analysis of each country's history, politics, and economics from the perspective of the people who live there. Updated irregularly.

How to use:
  Choose a country study from the drop down menu , search by continent, perform a broad search under "search," or use the link "portals to the world" to access other online resources.

  Another good place to start to find background information, news, and articles about a company.

How to use:

Mergent Online

  Contains 20,000 active and non-active international public companies.

How to use:
  Search by 1) company name or 2) classification (select index and country from drop down menus) to find companies listed. Information includes a Business Summary, Financial Highlights, Key Executives, and Principal Offices. Can also search for a country profile by selecting a country from the drop down menu on the far right. Use the advanced search screen to produce specific reports on a wide range of criteria.   Rates are updated quarterly. Amendments are made to the quarterly report if fluxuations in currency exceed 10% before the next currency report is issued.

How to use:
  Click on "get rates" or scroll beyond introductory statement) to see the listing of "all foreign currencies in which the U.S. Government has an interest." Click on "Amendments" to see the currencies that have fluxuated over 10% between the report statements.

PAIS is a good place to find the locations of documents available in the University of Maryland Libraries.

How to use:
